As you all know I’m half Brazilian, my mother is Brazilian and I love Brazil and its culture in general, so every year during Carnival I watch my favourite school parade and I cheer with all my heart for the victory. The name of the school is Beija-Flor And I love this Samba School since I was a little girl!
This year they did an amazing job and Won!!!
The name of the school is Beija-Flor Translation Humming Bird and the Samba Enredo (Samba Plot) was heartbreaking, they sang about all the problems that Brazil is facing with the politicians rubbing the country, criminality, poverty, racism and discrimination! But, as we know Brazilians are a strong, resilient and positive, always hoping and believing on a better future so at the end of the parade they showed white doves representing the faith of the Brazilians that all is going to be solved and peace will come.
I watched the show today, I cried got emotional, it breaks my heart to know that my beautiful country with its amazing people, beautiful people, people with mixed blood from all over the world are facing so many troubles that they shouldn’t be facing at all because Brazil is a rich country and is populated with the most hardworking people I’ve ever seen.
When I watched the parade I already knew they won the Carnival of Rio de Janeiro 2018, and they had to win because the lyrics of the samba plot are unbelievably touching!
If you want to see it click here is very beautiful.
The Samba Plot is called: Monstrous e’ Aquele que não Sabe Amar, Os Filhos Abandonados da Pátria que os Pariu ( Monster is the one who does not how to love the abandoned children of the motherland who gave birth to them) You can read the lyrics below in Portuguese 🙂 and you can read the translation… from Google. 🙂
The Lyrics and Translation:
Oh pátria Amada, por onde andarás?
Seus filhos já não aguentam mais!
Você que não soube cuidar
Você que negou o amor
Vem aprender na Beija-Flor”
“Oh pátria amada, por onde andarás?
Seus filhos já não aguentam mais!
Você que não soube cuidar
Você que negou o amor
Vem aprender na Beija-Flor”
Sou eu…
Espelho da lendária criatura
Um mostro…
Carente de amor e de ternura
O alvo na mira do desprezo e da segregação
Do pai que renegou a criação
Refém da intolerância dessa gente
Retalhos do meu próprio criador
Julgado pela força da ambição
Sigo carregando a minha cruz
A procura de uma luz, a salvação!
Estenda a mão meu senhor
Pois não entendo tua fé
Se ofereces com amor
Me alimento de axé
Me chamas tanto de irmão
E me abandonas ao léu
Troca um pedaço de pão
Por um pedaço de céu
Ganância veste terno e gravata
Onde a esperança sucumbiu
Vejo a liberdade aprisionada
English:
O beloved country, where will you walk? Your children can not take it anymore! You who did not know how to care You who denied love Come learn in the Beija-Flor “” O beloved homeland, where will you walk? Your children can not take it anymore! You who did not know how to care You who denied love Come learn in Beija-Flor “I am … Mirror of the legendary creature A monster … Devoid of love and tenderness The target in the sight of contempt and segregation Of the father who denied the creation Hostage intolerance of these people Reprobates of my own creator Judged by the force of ambition I continue carrying my cross The search for a light, salvation! Reach out my hand for I do not understand your faith If you offer with love I feed on axé You call me so much brother And you leave me to the léu Exchange a piece of bread for a piece of heaven Greed wears a suit and tie Where hope has succumbed I see freedom imprisoned Your book I do not know how to read, Brazil But the samba makes that pain inside the breast go away Made a Trawler of joy and emotion The tears roll My song is resistance In the echo of a drum Come to see shine One more boy that you abandoned Oh beloved homeland, where will you walk? Your children can not take it anymore! You who did not know how to care You who denied love Come learn in Beija-Flor
I hope you liked it and got a little emotional too, seeing what is happening around the world today I think these lyrics are valid for the world in general. We shall all have faith that Love will speak louder and work to make every day better, to make the world better so we can live a better peaceful place for our children, grandchildren and so on and on…
My thoughts and prayers today go to the children, teachers and all the families that are now suffering from what is happening in South of Florida.
Better Days must come immediately.
Thank you
Lucy
